MRO Cabin Camping

Posted by on June 18, 2020

Our two biggest concerns in the coming months are staying financially sound and staying connected with the MRO tribe. Many of you have donated this season’s tuition to help spur us on to 2021, thank you. If you have space in your life to send a donation to our organization, it would be a huge help. Here are a few opportunities to stay connected with MRO this summer.

We are excited to open for Cabin Camping and Rustic Tent Camping. Included with your stay: enjoy the waterfront (swim at your own risk), canoes, mountain bikes, and property during the day; with evening devotions around a campfire and outdoor Sunday worship time.

We have 9 bunk house cabins (6 bunks and 2 singles/cabin), 4 private lake front houses (ranging from 1-3 bedrooms), 4 private rooms (personal bathroom), and plenty of woods for rustic camping. Bring a grill or camp stove, cooler and food, as our kitchen will be shut down during this time. Some of the cabins will have refrigerators, most do not. Pricing options are as follows:

Private Lake Front Houses: $125/night

Bunk Style Cabins: $100/night

Private Rooms: $75/night

Primitive Camping: By Donation. Campsites have tent platforms but no utilities and no electricity. We also have a remote Lean-to on property by a quiet stream if you really want the camping experience.

Payment through Credit Card, Check, Cash, or Venmo accepted. (If using Venmo search for “Camp Brookwoods Deer Run MRO”)

Brookwoods, our associated camp in New Hampshire, has begun hosting Family Camp weekends, and from July 30th – August 2nd will be hosting an MRO specific weekend. On this weekend, MRO families, campers and staff will have priority registration over all other guests. Join Seth, Adam and the MRO family from July 30th – August 2nd at Brookwoods in Alton, NH for a time to reconnect with old friends and loved ones.

If you would like to learn more about cabin rentals at Moose River Outpost, or book dates for cabin rentals, please email Adam Jalovick (, or call the MRO office at 207-668-4877. Rentals will begin on Monday July 6th and end August 23rd. We may have some space during September so please ask when you talk with us if that would interest you.

Winnipesaukee Weekends

Posted by on June 17, 2020

We are excited to invite you and your family to come to Camp Brookwoods and Deer Run for one of our “Winnipesaukee Weekends”!  The long weekend (Thursday dinner to Sunday lunch) includes housing, meals, and a variety of your favorite camp activities  for your family to enjoy!

If you’re like us, you’re thankful that our loooooooong spring has finally turned to summer. Over the years, many of you have told us that when June rolls around, you feel like there’s something you should be doing, and suddenly, you realize—it’s packing for camp! It’s part of your “camp circadian rhythm” (yes, we think it’s a thing). And what we didn’t know, but God did know, is that you now have an opportunity to come back to camp when it works for your schedule! Though it’s not the summer we planned on, we are delighted it will be a summer we’ll never forget, and our hearts are already full just thinking about you being at camp! We are excited to see you, to share camp stories, and to hear how God is working in your lives. We pray that this time to reconnect with you will be an encouragement to all of us!

Here are some of the Winnipesaukee Weekend details…

Housing: Housing options and weekend dates will be booked on a first-come, first-served basis. Don’t delay and reserve your spots today! Click HERE for details and to sign up.

Dates: We’ve given some of the weekends a theme, which we thought might help you organize with other camp friends and families. The theme does not restrict that weekend to any particular group, however. For example, July 30th to August 2nd is designated for Moose River Outpost, but you don’t need to be a part of the MRO community to attend. Other themes include: July 4th Celebration (with fireworks), LDP groups, SALT, MRO and Former Staff Reunion.

Schedule: Click HERE to see a typical sample weekend schedule .

Pre-Camp Arrival: The State of New Hampshire has guidelines about coming to NH if you do not live in New Hampshire. You can find those details HERE.

In case you missed the email, by now you know that camp as we know it will not take place this summer at Brookwoods, Deer Run and Moose River Outpost. Here is a video message from Bob Strodel, Mary Beth Bowling and Ben Tabone. Also, here’s the message to the MRO family from Seth Coates.

Moose River Outpost Announcement

Posted by on June 1, 2020

Dear Moose River Outpost Families,

Greetings from Jackman, Maine.

As you know, the last few months have been different than anything we’ve experienced in our lifetime.

Since the middle of March, we’ve been carefully monitoring the Coronavirus situation. I’ve been meeting with Christian Camps and Conferences Inc.  leadership as well as our local Health Directors.  We’ve had many discussions with our local health department regarding the specific challenges of running a children’s camp in this environment. We’ve studied public health guidelines and consulted with industry experts, including the Maine Youth Camp Association.  We’ve prayed and sought the Lord, asking Him for an open door to move forward with MRO as we know it. I’m proud to work with such talented people who love the Lord.

But despite our best efforts, myself, Bob Strodel, and our wonderful Board of Directors, believe that we have exhausted every option that would allow us to run camp SAFELY. We have made the very difficult decision to suspend the opening of MRO for Summer 2020. We don’t believe that it is feasible to run Camp safely in such a remote location in this Coronavirus environment.

Ultimately, we believe this is in the best interest of our campers, staff and the long-term mission of MRO.

This decision was not easy to make and our hearts are hurting along with you because we know that MRO is a place where we all love to be seeking Christ, building community and embracing adventure.

So please pray…

  • Pray for our campers.
  • Pray for their parents to have wisdom in sharing this news.
  • And pray for our summer staff who are dealing with the loss of their expected summer ministry and income.

If you are registered for Camp this summer, here are some options for how we are handling the cancellation of your registration.

  • Option 1 – Roll Funds Forward to Next Summer: We would ask you to consider rolling forward any tuition paid to Summer 2021. If you choose this option, we would guarantee your child a place at MRO in the same session for 2021. For camp, choosing this option would help us manage cash flow and have funds on hand for current operations.  See below for on line form to notify us of your decision.
  • Option 2 – Donation:  If you are able, consider donating all or a portion of your paid deposit or tuition to MRO’s General Fund. A donation at this time would help us manage the lost revenue we will experience this summer and allow us to maintain the facility until 2021. A tax-deductible receipt will be issued to you. See below for on line form to notify us of your decision.
  • Option 3 – Full Refund: You may request a full refund by completing the on-line form below by June 30th. A full refund will be issued to you within 120 days of your request.

As best we can, we want to support you through this time. Campers look forward to camp all year long and so do we!   This is why we are still actively planning and preparing for how we can encourage your campers and keep moving this ministry forward. Please stay in touch with us. We can’t wait to see you face to face in Summer 2021!

Access this Online Form to choose which option is best for you.
